The Albion District Library’s Board of Trustees is actively seeking a resident of the City of Albion to represent the residents of the city on the Board. We’re looking for someone who believes the public library is vital to the health and well-being of the community as a whole. We want someone who is passionate about learning; is committed to equality, fairness, and transparency; and is willing to work with others to achieve challenging goals.

There are seven members on the ADL Board of Trustees. They represent the residents of the approximately 67 square miles of the City of Albion, Albion Township, and the Albion School District within Sheridan Township. The Board of Trustees responsibilities include: directing the funds and policies of the library, hiring and evaluating a library director, establishing goals and objectives for the library, and developing future growth and priorities of the library. Trustees serve four (4) year terms.

Qualifications: The eligible candidate must be a resident of City of Albion.

A strong candidate will possess:
– an awareness of the library’s role in our community as a center of information, culture, recreation, and lifelong learning,
– an understanding of our community and its needs,
– a willingness to commit time for both board meetings and at least one committee,
– the ability to think and plan creatively and to question objectively,
– sound judgment, a sense of fiscal responsibility, and political awareness,
– good listening and communication skills,
– the ability to consider all sides of an issue,
– a willingness to be an advocate for the library to the community and for the community to the library.
