Thursday Tales

Thursdays, starting October 12 @ 12:30 p.m. in the Naomi Lane Room

Raise your children to be lifelong readers by bringing them to storytime at the Library! You and your little one will enjoy stories, songs, music, and crafts that will help them develop the essential skills they will need in Kindergarten. Six-Week session runs from October 12-November 16. For children ages 2 through 5 and a parent or caregiver. Free and open to the public.

Saturday, December 2nd at 2:00 p.m. in the Naomi Lane Room

Do you love Batman? Did you know Batman loves to read? The Dark Knight of Michigan is coming to Albion District Library! He will be reading a story and taking photos with attendees. Kids and adults are encouraged to come dressed in in their superhero best! This free, family-friendly event will be open to the public. Sponsored by a grant from the Albion-Homer United Way.

Join us for stories, songs, art, and interactive centers that encourage the development of reading, writing, and community skills.We will provide a light meal or snacks and a $20 Albion Bucks Gift Certificate to each registered, qualifying family that attends. This series is made possible by a generous grant from the Albion-Homer United Way.

For parents and their children ages 2-6. Older or younger siblings may attend, but at least one child ages 2-6 and their parent or caregiver must be present in order to participate. Registration is required. You must register for each event separately.

  • Thursday, November 9, 6:00 pm at Albion District Library or
  • Tuesday, Nov 14, 2-3:15 at the Charles Snyder Community Building

Join us for a fun evening of fun, reading, writing, play, songs, and art.  For parents and their children ages 2-6. All registered families in attendance will receive a $20 Albion Bucks gift certificate! Free and open to the public, registration is required and space is limited. This event is sponsored by the Albion-Homer United Way.

  • Tuesday, December 12, 6:00 pm in the Naomi Lane Room at Albion District Library

Join us for stories, songs, writing, play, and art. We will also create gifts to share. For parents and their children ages 2-6. Older and younger siblings are welcome to participate but there must be at least one child between the ages of 2 and 6.  All qualifying, registered families in attendance will receive a meal $20 Albion Bucks gift certificate.

Free and open to the public, registration is required and space is limited.

Library visits are available, free of charge to daycares, schools, homeschool groups, and other community groups in the area. We are also happy to maintain a presence at any local event where we can meet with families and share our services. Program types vary by age but include storytime visits, family literacy training, database and research instruction, book talks, crafts, and more! Please contact Mrs. Jamie at to set up a visit. Bringing a group to the library? If you are coming to research or just want a tour, we can generally accommodate same-day requests.

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library

Free books delivered to your home!

The Dolly Parton Imagination Library is a program where each month, from the day a child is born until his/her fifth birthday, a carefully selected book arrives in the mail.

Supervision & Phone Use Policies

11.2.1 Unattended Children

  • Children 5 years of age or under must have a parent/caregiver, 16 years of age or older, within visual proximity of them at all times. Exceptions may be made for library programming.
  • Children ages 6 through 8 may use the Children’s Room unattended, provided they have a parent or caregiver, 16 years of age or older, present in the building.
  • Children ages 9 and up may utilize the Library unattended.
  • Children ages 8 and under will be referred to Albion Public Safety if Library staff members are unable to contact a parent or caregiver by closing time.
  • For the safety of all minor library patrons, Library staff will not confirm or deny the whereabouts of a minor to anyone other than a public safety officer, nor will they verbally page a minor for a phone call using the Library telephone.

Albion Bucks Policy for Family Literacy Nights

1. Albion Bucks are limited in quantity and are not guaranteed.

2. Families must pre-register for events to receive Albion Bucks, there is no registration during the event. Event registration closes when we reach our capacity, or the day before an event, which ever comes first.

 3. Adult must be present at the event to receive a set of Albion Bucks. You are welcome to bring a child from another family; however, you can not take Albion Bucks home to a parent who did not attend.

 4. Families can receive only set of Albion Bucks per event.Children may not be split up among adults for the purpose of receiving multiple sets of Albion Bucks. For example, when two or more adults attend together with multiple children from the same household they will receive only one set of Albion Bucks.

5. Families must have at least one child age 6 or under in attendance to receive Albion Bucks.

6.Families who arrive more than 20 minutes after the beginning of the event will not receive Albion Bucks.

7. Families who leave early will not receive Albion Bucks. We distribute Albion Bucks during the last 15 minutes of the event
