Beautiful Knitted Flag on DisplayIn anticipation of the United States Bicentennial in 1976, Albion resident Kathy Pewsey knitted the American flag that is on display through the month of July at the Albion District Library. Pewsey worked from a McCall’s Needlework and Crafts pattern but put her own creative touch on it by changing the material for the stars from felt to crochet, and it won a ribbon at the Calhoun County Fair in 1976. The flag visited California and Texas when Pewsey traveled cross-country in her camper van; now it has a permanent home in her bedroom. The Library is looking for other fabric artists who would like to show their work. The locked showcase measures approximately 67” x 55” and has a hanging rod. If your project is larger, perhaps it could be folded. If you are interested in displaying a quilt or fabric art, please contact the Library. New Materials Support College Access Network InitiativeThanks to the Joseph V. Wilcox Library Fund, the Albion District Library has been able to purchase many new items for the high school graduate—titles such as ASVAB: The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, How To Get Money For College, Letting Go, Colleges That Change Lives, How to Write a Winning Scholarship Essay, 21 ‘To Do’ Lists for High School, 97 Things To Do Before You Finish High School, and many more. The College Access Network is devoted to ensuring that Albion Public School students will have the support they need to finish high school, get into college or trade school, and be successful.
