PRESS RELEASE
ALBION DISTRICT LIBRARY
MAY 21, 2014

On Monday, May 19, 2014, the Albion District Library was served with a warrant by the Calhoun County Sheriff to take possession of certain items from the Library. The Police took as evidence the Director’s computer and various files from her office. It is our understanding that there is an investigation into the possible misuse of the Library’s credit card. The Library Board was not aware of this concern or the investigation prior to the unannounced search on Monday. Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office has indicated the scope of their investigation at the present time is related to the use of one Albion District Library credit card. The Library has and will continue to fully cooperate with the local authorities as they continue their investigation.

The Library has done what it can at this point to secure its credit card from any possible future misuse. The Library is assessing the situation and will make a determination on what else needs to be done after it has an opportunity to conduct its own investigation. We sincerely hope that these concerns prove to be unfounded, but we will continue to take all necessary precautions just in case.

Obviously this is a very sensitive personnel issue and the Library Board wants to deal with this matter in an appropriate and fair manner for all involved. Therefore, during the process of determining what, if anything has occurred, we will not be making further statements on the situation. We trust that our patrons will understand.
